What teaching strategies (in any class at UOIT) have you liked or not liked so far? Please describe the strategy and your explanation.

I would have to say my favorite teaching strategy is when the teachers trick us into thinking we are students again. I'm not sure what the strategy is called, or even if there is one, but it's a really unique experience. For example, when we walked into class the first day, we were told to write down all the different strategies of getting the classes attention. So I sat there, thinking of a whole bunch incase I got called on later in class. About half-way through the class, when we hadn't taken it up yet, I was beginning to think that Robin forgot about what he had asked us to do, until he brought up the topic again; getting the classes attention. He then told us a good way to do this is bell work, and BOOM! I was the victim of the you're-a-student-and-a teacher-at-the-same-time trick! I think it's a great way to show future teachers how affective it is if it works on them as students!

I think mostly everyone would agree when I say that lecturing is the least liked teaching strategy. It's good because in teaching strategies, a teacher can get out more information in a shorter amount of time. In all honesty though, I stop paying attention after about 5-10 minutes. I find that as soon as the lecture starts getting repetitive, I stop listening because I just assume that I'm not going to miss anything, and then 10 minutes later I feel completely lost. When I know a teacher lectures I try to always take notes, and keep myself focused on what they are saying. This helps mostly, but when it doesn't I zone out!
